Mara Verbena and the floral welcome for President Sergio Mattarella
San Marino, 7 December 2023 – Flowers were also the protagonists of the welcome offered yesterday by San Marino (6 December) during the official visit of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella to the Titan. A day full of appointments and meetings with the Most Excellent Captains Regent and the heads of institutions and Government of the Republic of Freedom and inside the Kursaal conference center the Italian guests found floral compositions and furnishings created by the San Marino floral designer Mara Verbena, to welcome the guests and gave the daughter of the Italian Head of State, Laura Mattarella, a bouquet made only with Italian flowers.
In fact, Mara Verbena in her role as vice president of the Italian Floriculturists and Florists Association (Affi) has chosen to use flowers and plants marked by the new mark of origin that identifies and promotes the tricolor cut flower, “Fiori Italiani”, created by AFFI. From the Neapolitan cooperatives of the association, hydrangeas arrived, despite the month of December, with the white and blue colors of the flag of San Marino and tricolor Anthurium Zafira to remember the Italian one. From Liguria, roses and buttercups arrived, from Tuscany, red Ilex berries. While, in the atrium and along the stairs of the Kursaal, Sicilian Kentias and Venetian poinsettias welcomed all the participants. Bouquets of Italian flowers were also donated to the Italian Ambassador to San Marino Maria Giovanna Fadiga and to the Ladies consorts of the Most Excellent Captains Regent.
“Flowers are universal symbols of peace, friendship, beauty. They express the feelings of the most beautiful people – explains Mara Verbena – and in 2008 and 2011 together with great international hybridizers we created two new flowers dedicated to the flag of San Marino: the white Carnation dedicated to Saint Agatha, co-patron saint of San Marino” and the “Verissimo del Titano Blue Delfinium”. Two varieties dedicated to the Republic of Freedom and thus entered among the symbols that tell the story of our land in the world. And yesterday in homage to the presence of the President of the Republic Mattarella, we chose to create compositions and furnishings with plants and cut flowers grown by the floriculturists of his beautiful country. I sincerely thank the Diplomatic Protocol and the Foreign Secretariat for having once again confirmed their trust in my work”.
